The Silent Scream
By Harpreet Chadha

The hues of dawn fall on earth
as the blush of a young bride
temple bells reverberate to hail and praise the divine
making ripples in the pristine Ganges flowing beside
the water is salty now, with her tears saline
and the waves are frothy with the dirt of mankind

Flora and fauna bask in the youth of mid noon sun
flaunting the emerald foliage she swaddles in her bosom
tears of torrential rains now corrode her of her prime
when avarice hewed the greens
for the clink of a dime

Dusk coalesces into a starless night
like a barren tree wilting in its plight
the warped trunk bears the human malice
the gnarled branches are bereft of life
termites of sin have infested the roots
weaken, they beseech for mercy and respite
