I Choose
By Bhavna Sarin
I choose to see butterflies,
And dream of being one,
Metamorphosing painfully into a being exquisite -
Flitting to blossoms beckoning with open arms,
You can't take that away from me.
I dream to be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow,
Luminous to behold -
Alchemised by ceaseless effort and trials,
The ultimate gift to myself,
You can't take that away from me.
I yearn to be the shining stars and moon,
Lighting up the darkness -
Inspiring odes, couplets, ditties,
Lifting spirits by their mere sight,
You can't take that away from me.
I persist in being the shoulder to lean on,
My aches buried under others' needs.
Cocooning hurting souls,
Soothing, comforting, rebuilding,
You can't take that away from me.
I opt for smiles and sunshine -
To dwelling in dark corners.
Embracing the predictable unpredictability of life,
Discovering in the minutiae, ample delight.
You can't take that away from me.
I believe, desire and idolise love -
Place it on a pedestal,
To rise, to reach up to it,
Or for it to reach out to me -
You can't take that away from me.
What I hand over willingly -
Choosing what and how much and to whom,
To the ones who wordlessly ask or need,
To the ones closest to my heart,
Take ALL, you can take, from me.
