The Seeker
By Anuradha Mazumdar

Between workplace and home,

and on the asphalt stretching in-between

Between waiting for Godot

and winnowing love

from pride, prejudice and misunderstanding

Between fixing faces

to meet familiar strangers

and joining in the laughter of friends

Between swallowing a song

threatening to roll off the tongue

and stifling a livid scream

Between sleeping and waking

and tossing in the restlessness

of a pre-dawn half-dream

I keep vigil, like parched soil for a drop of rain,

A seeker, in search of a poem.
