THE ROYAL CENOTAPHS OF JAIPUR QUEENS
In the foothills of the Nalagarh Fort lies a special monument. It is a series of Cenotaphs or Chattris covering the cremation sites of the Royal ladies of Jaipur. It is a unique architectural tribute, which celebrates the esteem, prestige and respect of the Women at that time.
THE GRANDEST OF THEM ALL
This the grandest Cenotaph of the complex and was built in the memory of Queen of Swai Raja Jai Singh II. It represents the grandeur and esteem of the queen in her times.
ONE WITHOUT THE DOME
It is said that if a queen predeceased the king then her cenotaph had a dome but if the king died before the queen her cenotaph did not have a dome.
SOME WERE SIMPLE SINGLE DOMES
Not all cenotaphs were grand or huge, some were simple single small domes as is this one dedicated to Queen of Jai Singh III
CENOTAPH OF H.H. MAHARANI GAYATRI DEVI
The most admired Maharani of the Jaipur royalty and part of our times was H.H. Maharani Gayatri Devi. She has a small beautiful marble cenotaph next to the other two wives of the Maharajah
THE CENOTAPHS HADÂ ELABORATE JAALI WORK FENCING
The cenotaph platform was guarded by an exquisite stone jaali work fencing and small chattris in each corner
SOME CENOTAPHS WERE MADE IN SCHIST
Marble has been used in most of the cenotaphs, however a few use a cheaper grey stone -Schist
ELABORATE DOUBLE ORNATE CHATRRIS
One of the cenotaphs has elaborate ornate chattris in the corners along with a schist fencing. These ornate chattris  cover a dome shaped structure underneath.
